speed: it is relative to both the camera and the card. you can have the fastest card in the world (as of today the sandisk extreme 3 a 133x card roughly) put it in a camera and it wil not deliver that or anywhere near that rate. what cards are capable of and what your particular camera will deliver are 2 entirely different capabilities.
ref: http://65.110.81.28/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-6896 i have (1) 2 gb ex3 card in my id mk2. i shoot freelance local news. the camera to card xfr rate is approx 7.4MB/s. with my sandisk ultra 2 cards (4 of them)its 6.9MB/s. the difference is irrelevent due to the buffer size in the camera and the small difference. essentially they both perform the same. inmy firewirereader though the ex3 is a little more zippy. the price difference though is about 30+$$$. now your 20D ref: http://65.110.81.28/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-7303 the differences in between the ex3 and the ulra 2 are again negligable. both are lifetime warranteed. and the ultra 2 at about $95 plus free snd day fedex sound like the ultra 2 is the winner in relative speed vs economy. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...ductCode=80420 i have "wasted" lots of my money at this place and will continue to due so. |

Thanks for the post I will go with the Sandisk 1GB Ultra II, looks to be the best one for the price, and to use with the 20D.

I use a 1GB Ritek Ridata superfast 52x, they're relatively cheap(cheaper than Sandisk Ultra II)and haven't encountered any problems with it on my 20D

Fry's Electronics last weekend had Hitachi (IBM) 2 GB micro drives for $109, WITH a $20 rebate. That's about as cheap as I've seen, and it's plenty fast in my 10D considering the buffer built into the camera. A 2GB card would have been great for your 20D, especially if you shoot RAW.

I've just got a 2Gb Lexar CF from http://www.mymemory.co.uk/ but would guess that you're in the States so could probably get them cheaper where you are! You're not in "Rip Off Britain"!
However, I've also gor two 40x 1Gb, 1 IBM Microdrive. I've tried to stop using the microdrive as it's got moving parts and the others are solid state. Being pretty clumsy I feel that the Microdrive might fail me before the others. I intend to start taking sports photo's in RAW mode so am planning to buy some more 2Gb CF's. Cheers, Carl. |
