I have a 40D and Iremove the CF card to download the pics. I usually do this once a week. Will this constant removal wear on the camera and should I start downloading directly from the camera?

It at least increases the risk of mis-inserting the CF card, which happened to me with a camera I owned.I was a bit too enthusiastic and ended up bending a pin, although with some tremendous luck I was able to nudge it back into place.

I pop my CF card out to put into my mediadrive as well, it downloads so much faster and I prefer not to mess around with the camera/PC interface.

I'd like to think that the CF interface is engineered for heavy use.

Yeah, I bent a pin with my 20D.

Have never had a problem with my 5D though. *shrug* just be careful and all will be well. The cards won't "wear out" or anything.

I've been doing it on my XT for the last 3 years. So far so good, no problems with the card or camera or card reader. I used to do it weekly, now I'm every couple of weeks--don't take as many pics as I used.
