Last thursday night I was getting out of the truck at a shooting location. When I picked up my Digital Rebel the strap hung up on the seat release and jerked out of my hand. It fell about four feet to the concrete parking lot
It took two fairly good bounces and came to rest right side up. I had the camera side of a tripod quick release installed and it took the worst of the impact. There is no visible damage, however the kit lens took a hit and now makes a strange noise when I use the zoom ring towards the full zoom end. It works the same as always and is still sharp. It was definately an Oh S*&t moment when the camera fell. Heart attack city. It's almost unbelieveable that the Digital Rebel came though unscathed, even though I have always thought it was tough. I really expected to see some damage from the force of the impact. Just a lucky break I guess. |

This is the 2nd account of someone dropping a Rebel and coming out unscathed. The other account that I had heard came from my local merchant who was showing the camera to a customer and watched it fall to the linolium floor from the height of the countertop. No damage. That polymer plastic is one tough cookie.

If the two of you don't mind I'll just take your word for it and hope to not test the trend.

They make a very solid "Clunk" when they hit the ground. I thought mine was dead but, after removing and replacing the battery it has carried on working without pause, amazing thing

You're right Brian, the sound of it hitting the ground was pretty solid. I hope that I never hear it again.
I shot some more yeaterday and today, everything seems to be ok now. The lens seems to be working normally. Guess I'll move on and start looking at dye sub printers again. |
