Does anybody know if Canon will ever make a DSLR with Image Stabilization built into the body like the Konica Minolta 7D?

Know? Only Mr. Canon "knows".
Canon makes a lot of IS lenses that cost a lot. In the DSLR business, the money is in lenses... for the manufacturer and the consumer. I suspect most consumers will replace camera bodies before trading in their lenses. I doubt Canon will follow Minolta's lead. |

I doubt they care to do it, but if the market forced them to do it I bet they would. In an instant.
But I don't expect to see them doing it just because they can. As Wildman said, there is a lot of money to be made in lenses and they sell their IS lenses for a nice profit. Eric |

One would think that Canon makes a lot of money in lenses since 'we' spend a lot more money on them than the body - in reality the lens sales only represent 15% (page 16) and that included film cameras:
http://www.canon.com/ir/results/2004/rslt2004q3e.pdf They'll do what the 'market' want... Canon didn't put the AF originally in the body either: They had the AF in the lenses until Minolta and then Nikon turned the market around by putting the AF in the bodies instead ![]() http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography...SLRs/canont80/ http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/h...991_story.html |

Wildman,
Well, I don't "know" either but I predict that within 2 years EVERY dSLR will have IS in the body, and not too long after that, so will the long focal length P&S cameras. Most of the major serious photography mags are saying the same thing. |
