Default Canon 10D horizontal lines

I have a new Canon 10D with a Canon75-300 EF 4-5.6 is lens. Most of my shots have a band running across the picture at some level. Ther is a strong difference between the picture above and below the line. It happens when I have the Tiffen uv protector on or off the lens. Both the lens and camera are brand new. I have only the one lens. Any ideas?[/img]

It almost sounds like you got a graduated filter instead of a uv... except that it happens without the lens too (nuts, missed that in my first read.)

Can you post a picture? Almost anything will be a wild guess without an example.
