Hi,

I was looking at 5D, Mark II and 1Ds and found that an used equipement costs almost the same price.

I found a couple of deals where the 5D was arnd 2200, Mark II around 2700 and Ids around 2300.

I was wondering, why a pro level camera goes at almost the same rate as 5D which although a great camera is still not upto the 1 series level.

Am i understanding it wrong, or its a blessing to get these pro cameras at these prices. Or are these 1 series cameras not as good as 5D's

The mark II was arnd 2700 which just around 2000 actuations. And i found quite a few in used market. The IDs were used but had like 2000-3000 actuations.

Can somebody explain this.

Is it something to do with the camera itself or something else. I am just confused

Thanks
Vj

well the 5D and the Mark IIn are pretty close to the same price new, around $600 to $800 difference. The 1Ds you are probably looking at is the older model that I believe is 4 mp, but still a pretty good camera. The newer 1Ds Mark II is about an $8000 camera.

The biggest differences between the MrII (left) and the 5D (right) are:
o Much more precise and faster* 45 points AF vs - only 9 for the 5D
o Weather seal on the mrkII vs not on the 5D
o Older NiMh which last longer than the lighter LiIon battery
o Larger size and weight more than the 5D
o 1.3x crop vs full-frame

(*) I've found on the 1D's that the AF is really poor in low-light - i.e. required to turn on the Flash IR illuminator whereas the xxD cameras can focus fine in the same situation without any help

less than 1/2 that - $ 3500

-> The 1Ds Mark II is 8k (full-frame and not 1.3x), the 1D and 1Ds are two different cameras both are MrkII

The 1D MrkIIN just have a larger rear LCD and style improvements over the regular 1D MrkII otherwise they are identical

I think you're still mixing up cameras.

There are 3 cameras: 1Ds, 1Ds Mk II and 1DMk II N

1Ds Mk II is an $8000 camera - it is full frame

1d Mk II N is a 1.3 crop camera, 8.2mp and costs around $3600 new

The 1Ds camera is what Caboose is referring to - it predated the MK IIs.

There are five different flavors:
1D - 4Mp, 8fps
1Ds - 11Mp, 3fps
1D Mark II - 8Mp, 8fps
1D Mark II N - 8Mp, 8fps
1Ds Mark II - 16Mp, 3fps

-> i.e. if you see a 1Ds for $2700 I would jump on it over the 5D!!!

You should be seeing used 5D's go for less than $2k between Oct. 15 and Jan. 15 cuz of the upcoming $600 Canon rebate that starts on Oct. 15.

As NHL said, its the IDs 11.2Mp and not the IDS Mark II.

Thats why i never mentioned IDs with Mark II. And you are right. Its going for 2750 with around 15000 actuations. A little used one. I was looking at 5D and came across this and was surprised to see the difference was so less to jump to IDs.

And it is a Full Frame too.

if u look at ebay, most cameras sell for almost the same price as brand new and on canon lenses, they sell higher than brand new, so i just ordered a 580 ex flash and 70-200mm L IS from buydig.com. new and cheaper than ebay.
