I just noticed that the filename prefix on my 30D has changed from IMG_00xx.jpg to _MG_00xx.jpg.

No idea how it changed, but I don't like it.

Does anybody know how to change it? I would like to change it to my own prefix (like you can do on a Nikon), but if that is not possible, IMG_ will do.

Thanks, ...David

Did you recently switch from SRGB to Adobe 98 ? Thats what changes the prefix as you described.

Come to think of it, I did. Good call!

So that leaves the second part of the question. Can the filename prefix be customised? If so, how?

Thanks for the link. Good info.

The main reason for using aRGB is the wider gamut available when processing the image in Photoshop.

But maybe the motivation for your question is really more along the lines of "Why shoot JPEG? In Raw, all these considerations are taken out of the camera, and put where they belong - in post=processing.

Well, I agree. And I need to get there. But it's another step up the learning curve, and it's still on my to-do list. It's a bit daunting, jumping off the deep end and into the unknown. So far all I have done is to turn on Raw+JPEG for some shots where I know that I want complete control over colour balance. Just returned from holidays, and will try to figure out the workflow this weekend.

Anybody want to point me in the right direction?
