Seems that was what we all suspected Craig, though Shawn's holding of the flash when it's popped seems to suggest otherwise.
I'm more inclined to agree with your ball bouncing theory

Though I mine had what appears to be the same clicking sound, I am not worried since several, if not all, of you have found the same.

On a quasi related subject (clicking), I just received my Sigma EX 120-300mm and noticed a clicking noise as I rotate it. Now, have any of you experienced that with this particular lens? Yes, I know it is a lens issue not 30D :-)

It IS the orientation sensor.Most new Canon's have that sound. It used to be quite obvious, they managed to make it a little quieter these days. It's basically a little weight which rolls a certain way depending on which way you hold the camera. That's how it knows if it is being held horizontal or vertical.

In the "troubleshooting guide" at the back of my 400D manual, one of the topics is;
"The camera makes a noise when shaken", to which the response is; "The built in flash's pop-up mechanism shakes slightly. This is normal."

May be the same on the 30D?

It's also happening on my 30D...Wish you had'nt said it now, it's really pissing me off!!Lol

The clicking is just under the Hotshoe Bracket so i assume its the Spring on the pop up flash...Try it with the flash up and move it backwards and frowards then you'll agree it probably the spring!!

Hope so!!

Nope. Mine isn't coming from the hotshoe bracket. I just took a hacksaw and removed that portion of the 30D and it still makes the rattle. :-)
