As Mark said, in AV and TV mode the camera tries to set exposure as if you are not using a flash at all. Manual mode usually works the best because you can select a narrow aperture if you want (like f8) and let the flash put out more power.
Although both will set for a correct exposure I believe (from the manual) it is only the Av that exposes the full frame correctly and in Tv it is just the subject. Even if I have interpreted this incorrectly you still would not have a major issue starting out in Tv as you are controlling the shutter speed so you will eliminate camera shake.

I might go and have a play with the camera in a moment to see the difference of Tv and Av (my life is soooo exciting lol)

Mark - put it in TV with a 2.8 lens and see what aperture value you get. What if you're taking a group shot and need f8 or f11? That was my point with the drawback of TV mode - it forces you to a wide aperture.

Will give it a try, but I'm guessing f2.8. I pretty much always use manual so have not experienced it.

Where's Terry when you need him? He'd get a kick out of me advising someone to close down their aperture :-):-)

Have you had a chance to try the ideas out? How did you get on?
