At this point, I chose the 30D because, at the lower price, I could get the battery grip, flash, and maybe a second lens. Any suggestions on a lens to compliment the 24-70mm for my situation?
Canon seems have the diversity of equipment that allows for upgrades of bodies and lens' along the way without the need to turn over your entire inventory at the same time.

That's very true. As you are shooting from ring side then I would say play with the 24-70 for a bit and see what settings you are having to shoot at and go from there. The worst thing to do is purchase something that might never get used. If you find you are shooting at 50mm or 30mm as well as needing a brighter option then go for a bright prime however I guess you might be OK for ringside with what you have. The other options will be going longer such as the 70-200mm f2.8 options from Canon or Sigma. Best thing is hold on until you know you need something (it's tough as we all like new toys).
