I shoot mostly indoor swimming action and start each event by shooting a white card, one shot each with flash and one without.

I've been noticing as of late that the white card appears on my lcd and on the monitor at home as looking white on top fading to a purplish tinge at the bottom half.

Yesterday, I set up to shoot a swim meet with the white card again and the card looked purple on the bottom half so I turned my WB to Auto Mode and shoot the rest of the meet in that mode with and without flash.

What was odd this time was when I shoot swimmers on deck at 70-80mm the skin tones were good, not much to PS later, but when I zoomed to 150 - 200mm the skin and everything else looked yellowish.

Anybody know what is happening?

Below are two shots describing my delema.

Not zoomed...much. No PS.

It was at two different exposures...
-> The yellow one has the lower exposure, may be the flash does not get that reach... or the auto WB playing trick on the flash/indoor lighting depending on the subjects color content

I would leave on fixed WB and if you have to fix WB later - the images would all have a fixed offset
