I've just bought my first DSLR the 400D with a 18-55mm & 90-300mm. I have had SLRs before and I have the Fuji S5600, but what I want to now is there any tips you can give me for the 400D.

Any help would be greatful.

Thanks Neil......

With your background in film SLR you have no problem to handle the 400D. I use mine the same as film camera, mostly in M mode, rarely in Auto mode.

Experiment with the Picture Style options, shoot something in color and use the one you like best. For general purpose, I use Neutral. There are 3 user settings, I set the first 2 for portrait and landscape, the third one I set it to use with a polarized filter.

Be familiar with all the buttons in the back of the camera where you use them change ISO, AF, aperture, shutter speed, Picture Style, continuous shots...give you quick reactionto control of the camera in real life shoot.

I'm curious, what is that lens 90-300mm? An odd zoom range that you have.

congrats on the new camera. I had the same set up when i got my first DSLR three years ago although mine was the 300D. The 90-300 lens was a good entry level lens but i upgraded over time along with an upgrade to the 30D. From what Ive read the 400D is a great buy.
