I have recently switched out my trusty Nikon D50 for a *hopefully* upgraded experience on the XTi. I'm noticing that the XTi seems to have a very high noise issue when shooting >400.... almost makes 800/1600 not even worth using really.

Here is a test image that I shot tonight:


And ISO comparisons.


To me, this is way up and beyond what I'm used to on the D50. Anyone else think there is a problem here or is this normal for the Canon systems?

Good sample photos. However, when you cram more pixel sites on the same size imager layout, the usual result is more noise and grain. IMO, the D-50 had better low light performance (less noise/grain)because there are fewer pixel sites on nearly the same imager layout.
