I just received a new Canon XTi from B&H Photo Video. I've shot a few photos and am very happy with the camera.

I just noticed though that the images saved on my 4GB microdrive started at approximately IMG_7300.

Sholdn't the frame numbering have started at IMG_0001?

I emailed B&H Customer Service and my only response was "According to our record of your serial number, the camera was purchased new". (Not much help).

Is anyone knowledgeable in this regard?

Thank you.

did u use a card that was previously used before. If so its mostly going to start recording from the last number in that card.

Its inherent with canon. The Higher end cameras like the 1D have the file numbers in the EXIF information. but i ma sure with the prosumer level cameras.

So dont worry, it is normal to get shocked.

I just got my XTi the other day also and used it for the first time this weekend. With my XT, the numbering system wasIMG_xxxx. With my new XTi, it started with 100_xxxx.....

I know, not much help with your question but I just noticed the difference with the way the numbering sys started out.

Def strange.....

http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00FBbW a similar discussion. I am not sure if there is anyway to verify the actual image count using any available software. There are few for 1D series.

I am guessing capture one should give the right count number. Can u check with capture one software.
