I am looking for a wireless remote for my 30D to minimize vibration for close-ups and time exposure. I would like to use it to activate mirror lock and bulb shutter functions too.

What are the different options and how much would it cost?:?

I dont think you will find one that can control the mirror lockup as the option is buried in the menu's

The Canon RC-1 for $25 dollars is a lot cheaper and works great with my Rebel XT

I can not imagine it does not work with the 30D but that might be the case.

Description

This miniature infrared transmitter operates at ranges of up to 5m/16.4 ft., and may be set for either instant shutter release or 2-second delay. The RC-1 may also be used to activate mirror-lock and bulb-shutter functions.

I think it should work for 30D too. Have you used RC-1it to activate mirror lock-upor bulb shutter functions for your Rebel XT?

The description inidcates that it can be used in that manner, but I use simply as a remote. Hard to argue with the price.

I would double check before buying it, as I can find nothing that says it works with a 30D.

Apon looking at the 30Ds specs these are the remotes they list for it

Remote Control
N3-type remote control
(RS-80N3, TC-80N3 Timer, LC-4 Wireless, computer control when tethered)

The 30D and 20D do not have the remote control sensor on the front of the camera body, so the RC-1 will not work.

Optical triggers are notoriously unreliable.
I was given a rc-1 for free with one of my old bodies and it was not worth the price.

A pair of Pocket Wizard tranceviers and a pre-trigger cable can be used to reliable trigger the camera from up to 1600 feet away.
They can also be used to fire a remote flash like the EX 580 mkII or studio strobes.

Pocket Wizard tranciver (Cost 2 * 189$ = 378$)

Pre-trigger cable (cost 79$)

Total cost 457$+tax, expensive but as with most equipment you get what you pay for.
