Hi,

Sorry to hook in so late .

I use the following technique for outside landscape (which I hardly shoot by the way).

First take a measurement of the whole scene with the [ ] setting, not the [()] or [(o)] setting (I hate those non logical icons, but you know what I mean).

First take a shot as you like if you use the rule of 2/3 this will mean that the ground is well exposed but the sky is blown out. Now focus on the same spot and use exposure lock and aim at the sky to get that good in exposure (ground will be underexpossed).

At home combine the two shots and voila almost double dynamic reach without blowing out clouds.

Also for landscapes always use a tripod and use small appertures, like f11-f22 this to get everything in focus. f2.8 is good for shutter speeds but you will have a narrower DOF.

Hope this helps, please correct me if I'm wrong I'm only a beginner.

Greetings,
Frank

You're doing pretty good Frank... except @ wide angle the DOF is deeper than @ long for the same aperture, ie you don't need to go all the way to f/11-22 (unless you are shooting up close like indoor)!

... Look @ your Sigma lens: one side is the DOF scale for tele and the other side is the DOF scale for wide. 8)
