Does that wheel do BOTH? What if I am in full manual mode? Can I not adjust both settings without some how changing the mode of the wheel.
The wheel will select the shutter speed when in manual, to select the aperture turn the same wheel while holding down the AV+/- button with your thumb!

... The 10D has two wheels so it requires less dexterity! :P

Default A few specs

Hi,

Wanted to post a few of the specs the Canon Rep gave me yesterday in Toronto....

- New manufacturing mode for the DiGic chips has helped reduce price greatly...
- The Flash pops up 1/2 inch, ensuring good flash range even using a 28-200 lens (Those who "know" will be very grateful for that!)
- The camera is Pictbridge compatable (About time!)
- You can get about 1000 pics out of 2 of the BP-512 batteries
- 30% lighter and 15% smaller than 10D
- There are 1,276 parts in the D300

KenKosowan - I'm not far from Peterborough. I'll have to pop in some time.

What was your overall impression of the 300d?
Do you know when you are getting stock of these?

Thanks
Jay

Hey "chubby",

We should be getting them soon.... I'm hoping 1-2 weeks. The Canon 80-A should be coming in a bit after that I hope.....

As for overall impression of the 300D... I liked it quite a lot. I found it to be just the right weight and it's at the right price-point. While many could do more with a Canon 10D, it's the advanced amateur that would in the market for this camera... it'll do them just fine. I look forward to taking it out into the field sometime.

I've had people starting to sniff at the camera, and I don't even have it in stock yet! It's going to be a monster seller, but as with all Canon digital cameras, I expect a sizeable shortage by late November.... Canon always underproduces their new cameras.... It happened with the Canon A40 last Christmas and the Canon A60 and A70 this spring.

Cheers,
Ken

Has anyone heard any recent rumours about when the 300D will hit the stores?

I did a few nights ago.

The Canon Rep told me they'll be shipped out in 1-2 weeks. After that, the cameras must be delivered from regional warehouses to retail establishments.... I'd say you'll find a 300D in a shop window by the beginning of October (I hope)

That's a Canadian perspective by the way.
