djb,

That was the only way they could get it to work at the camera shop. They didn't have any open 40D's so we couldn't try a different camera to see if the 6 second would work the same way. I'll stop into store this weekend and play with their demo camera and post back what I find out.

Well I'm back again, tried the camera reset (left battery out for an hour) and I can how get the Exposure Compensation to work as stated in the manual. Much happier now thanks to all for the help. Though I still say the way the manual is written is terrible.

Craig, glad you got the problem straightened out!!! But, do you have any idea why resetting to factory specs fixed it?? Did you change any settings before this problem arose?? if so, what? just interested in why that would happen.

Think doing the reset just (by taking the battery out) it fixed aCPU glitch orsomething. As for did I change settings, of course, I tried pushing and clicking everything on the camera. Most of the changes made before reading the manual.:?So who knows what I may have done, but I still blame it on a minor CPU glitch.:G
