I'd like to use my Leica 35mm R lens on my 40D.

Does anyone have any experience with the ada[ter that is needed?

I've looked on e-bay ,but seem to get conflicting opinions as to the adapter quality and usage.

Also which dealer would you recommend?

Will I get a better quality image than my current 17-40L lens?

Any thoughts/suggesti0ns would be appreciated

Thanks

Mike

On a cropped 40D you will not miss much, but this may be the reason why some folks are looking for different options on full-frames:

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.....and your in depth test results....Yes,I seem to be getting very conflicting remarks about switching to a leica lens on my 40D.

I did send the 17-40 to canon for calibration a while back, andI really have no complaints..just thoght the leica lens would edge out the canon.

Am I better off doing this on a full frame{5D?}.

I'm not a professional ,just a serious amatuer..hate to have all this expensive glass laying around collecting dust.

Also,I looked at your images ,and they are really great,I take it you used the Zeiss lens????

This is because on a 40D (1.5x sensor) you don't see the fall-offs on the 17-40L - i.e. they are cropped away by the smaller image sensor in your camera:

-> The 40D only sees the "good" part below 13mm on the horizontal axis

Absolutely: At the edges (i.e. beyond the cropped areas) the Leica blows the 17-40L royally out of the water:
