We are looking for advice on what type of camera to buy. We have been doing reasearch but it is confusing and very time consuming. We hope that by providing some information someone here can advise us on our purchase.

We have asked ourselves several questions about our purchase and come to the following conclusions for what we need in a Canon SLR:

- We will mostly use it for photographing wildlife on the lake we live near. i.e., ducks, eagles, muskrats, etc. We cannot get anywhere near our subjects with the camera we have now, although it's great for family photos etc.

- We have a budget of between 500 and 1000 dollars.

- We are currently looking at a Canon Rebels and which type of lense would be best.

Any help from someone who knows about these things would be greatly appreciated!

for the budget u mentioned its gonna be tough to get the reach ur looking for. with a canon camera u are about to spend around 500 for the xti and lets say a two lens kit of 18-55 IS(180) and sigma 70-300(180)

This will be around 860 in total.

But 1 word of caution is that a 300mm(effective 480mm) is not as long as it sounds. U still have to get close to the wildlife ur talking abt. U still ave to move closer to the subject. Heck i still find a 1000mm bigma not long enough for some shots.
