I hope it came for your sake. Waiting for the camera is always painful. Tell us what you think!

I use the Photo Trekker Classic to carry my stuff (partially because I also put a spotting scope in it on occasion. LowePro's stuff is so comfortable, isn't it?

I like that. What a way to rationalize the 1Ds. I need to take wide angle shots, so to save money on the really wide lenses I'll get a 1Ds and buy a reasonably priced 24mm lens!

Yes, and 24mm isn't that wide yet! Imagine having to go to 15mm on a 10D, that would mean a 9mm lens. I bet buying a 1Ds will be cheaper then :-)

Got the cam, using the lens, put it in a Tamrac holster. Picked up a monopod & a Bogen 3001 w/ pan - tilt head.

Went to the zoo

Looks like you're having fun already. I really like that first one... I'm a sucker for the big cats. My girlfirend won't let me have one. I wonder why

I think that lower left one is a Tri-Colored Heron. Never seen one in the wild. Gotta find one some time.

Nice pictures! I take it you like the lens? Is 350mm enough for zoo shots?

Barthold, is there ever enough reach??? This is a small zoo & none of the animals were too far away. I would like to get a 500 prime but then I would like to win lotto too!

I almost sent this lens back for the 400 prime but then what? I can't afford too many lenses right now. The prime I would team up with the 1.4 tele.

Guess I'll have to be patient, this lens will give me lots of options in one rig (at 135 it is 1:4 macro)

Glad you liked the shots

The 400mm prime is waaay out of my budget, either the regular or the DO one. Plus, they are too heavy for my taste. I'll eventually maybe 'settle' for the 100-400L.

You can put a TC on your 35-350L, can't you? I think it fits. With the 1.6 factor of the 10D that makes for one nice tele lens.

Testes over at the forums at DP Review showed that the 400DO is basically the same as the 100-400, but a stop faster. Optically the are the same. That isn't worth the money to me.

I seriously considered it, and when their testing was done I didn't get it. I could spend that money on the 500 or the sigma 300-800.

Barthold, not sure but I read at least 2 reviews mentioning that the 35 - 350L didn't work with tele's. Something about not focusing to infinity??
