Finally...
-> Just wonder when they'll also give up on holding out on Auto ISO

Yes that would be a nice feature. Given the market segment though I would have preferred they improved the autofocus. Without it, the camera won't compete against the D300

I would like to know more about the sensor. Is it new or is it a old one that they are squeezing more MP's out of? I really don't need more than 10MP's. I would so much rather have better IQ including wider tonal range and less noise.

Canon 50D so soon after the 40D??? The 30D was out forever, but I understand part of the reason was because Canon took the 40D back to the drawing board before introduction, after they saw the Pentax K10D features.

I'd be surprised if a 50D came out so soon. I think the 40D still has legs left in it, but with such fierce competition out there at the 40D's price point, who knows ?

To be honest, I wouldn't mind buying a lightly used Canon 30D at a good price. Always liked that model. Even though it only had 8. something MP's, this was a camera that demonstrated that MP's aren't everything.

Real data is out. Looks like the LCD and ISO expansion and AF adjustare the real gains.

The big DIFFERENCE though will be the MP and digicIV processor. Only time will tell if IQ is better, same or worse because of this.

Looks like Canon is playing to the novice shooter - stressing live view and megapixels. Sadly though, that is what the market seems to want.

Yap - and another EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens... just playing catch up and nothing revolutionary

I'm surprised. The 50D is out. I think part of it the fact that the K20D had a 14.6 MP sensor and the Nikon D300 is quite the camera.

Well, as they say competition makes better products for all us.

Here's a link to a Dutch site that has a hands on review of the focus capabilities, and it'b been translated to English:
http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fhttp://www.tidningenfoto.se%2FSites%2FFoto%2FDefault____5 4487.aspx&hl=en&ie=UTF8&sl=sv&tl=e n]http://www.tidningenfoto.se%2FSites%2FFoto%2FDefault____5 4487.aspx&hl=en&ie=UTF8&sl=sv&tl=e n]http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fhttp://www.tidningenfoto.se%2FSites%2FFoto%2FDefault____5 4487.aspx&hl=en&ie=UTF8&sl=sv&tl=e n

This Dutch photog is impressed with the speed and accuracy of the 50D's focusing....

Ron

Edit to say the link does not work - I'll try to get it right. Stand by....

Here's the link to the original page - maybe someone can figure out how to translate it???

http://www.tidningenfoto.se/Sites/Fo...____54487.aspx

OK, just copy and paste the following into google, and when it brings the page up, it will ask if you want it translated:
