Amazon is offering the XSi for only about $3 more than the XS, both with the same lens included. Given that, why would anyone buy the XS? It seems to have no advantages over the XSi, and several important disadvantages.

They wouldn't . Sometimes this sort of thing happens with bulk buying etc.

i think big stores set the prices by what they bulk purchased the units at and they use a min/max profit percentage mark up to get the sale price
when i bought my xsi the xti was only 20 bucks cheaper...duhhh:?
