I know this has been discussed over and over and over. I am selling my Nikon D80 to
go back to Canon for personal reasons. Nothing at all against Nikon. I am trying to decide between getting the 40D with the 28-135 kit lens, or should I go with an older 20D, or older rebel body and get a 24-105 lens? I am leaning towards the 40D, but bodies come and go. I have had the 24-105 lens before and other than the weight, I loved it and it was the best type of lens for all the ordinary shooting I like to do. How is the 28-135 lens?? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Well the way you ask the question means you know the answer, go for the better lens.

How about one of the new bodies like the 1000D and the 24-105? Should be within the same price range as an older 20D.

I agree, I use my 24-105 mainly on a 5D but it also gets used on the 30D from time to time and the quality is great.

The XSi and the XS fairly close in price around $579 and $479.
The XSI is a lot better. The 40D is more like $850.

By the way the 18-55 IS Kit lens is pretty Damn Good, its hard to argue with the only Xtra $45 its costs when bought with the Camera. Its not a Constant F stop but its great to have the wider range for the time being as a 2nd lens.

I took all but the XS price from buydig.com.
