Default RAW and Mac

Hi Guys

Since getting the 300d a couple of weeks ago i have been shooting jpegs only and am very happy with them. I read on various forums on the net that RAW is the way to go. I experimented with RAW and have to agree that the quality does look better. My problem is that the software that comes with the camera (File Viewer Utility) is extreeeeeemely slow on my computer at home (G4 Cube 450 512 Ram OS 10.2.8) when working on RAW files. Is there a way of opening them directly into Photoshop 7 with a plug-in and doing all the adjustments there or do i have to shed more cash (which i dont have after buyiing the camera) to get some alternate software....?

Oh yeah.. do any of you guys miss the eye controlled auto focus as i do....!

There is a plugin for PhotoShop 7, but I have been told that it is only available for the PC. They call it Adobe Camera Raw (ACR.) I would search on their web site to confirm that is true (although the person who said it is good, so I believe him.).

There are other packages that can do raw conversion. Capture One, BreezeBrowser and others. I donít know if they have MacOS versions.

Photoshop CS has Adobe Camera Raw version 2 built in and is great. It has many improvements of the plugin (version 1). Version 1 of ACR did not directly support the Canon 10D and had to be hacked.
