Good for beginers (but too expensive).

I stay with my 450D - no wish for 500D, no significant improvements

display with 900.000, 15 mp ... both not necessary. very bad: no moveable display

using money for GH1, I think Lumix GH1 will be 10x better :-)

Well, I'm upgrading from my XT and already have a couple lenses I like. But, I will check out the Lumix just to be certain. I was, and maybe still am, shopping for a D5.

Might not be a bad upgrade to my XT. I prefer the smaller bodies. I would have to get new SDHC memory cards and approval from the "boss".

T1i sounds familiar. Wasn't there a Rebel Ti 35mm film camera years ago?

It probably wouldn't be a good idea to sell my 40D and buy the 500D would it?

It depends what you want to do. As a tool the 40D is still a higher level but if you want video then there is no comparison.

No i don't need video, so it would be wise to keep my 40D then?

I would personally find it hard to switch even from a 30D to anything in the xxxD series at the moment due to the better control of the xxD series. When I have managed to get my hands on a 500D I might change my mind but nothing in the 450D was enough for me to recommend it over a 30, 40 or 50D. It is something that a lot of us go through when seeing something new on the market and that is think "I want one of those" but ask yourself this, what am I going to be able to get our of the 500D that you can't with the 40D? The high ISO performance might be there, but it is too soon to tell so that could bea consideration and as I like to shoot video for me this aspect is of interest.

The unusable 1080p at 20fps is what is keeping me from getting me to jump on it over the 5D MkII. (Not that I could even, given it hasn't even been released! Oh yeah, and the 5D MkII cost three times as much as the 500D!!) But the Digic4 processor and 3" LCD with LiveView and face detect have me swayed over the XXD's at this time. Much to ponder, for sure.

All I know is it's tough sharing the XT with my oldest as he keeps needing it for school! Ack!
