Default Large perfect circle through the VF of 400D

The other day I had my camera out and about with me... I forgot if I did anything or if I didn't. All I know is one minute my camera view was as it normally is. The next there is this large circle in view, a perfect circle. Its very strange as it just appeared.

I have used 2 of my lenses, 18-55 and 80-200 and its visible with both. Also took lenses off and its still visible.

Any advice or anyone know if its a setting which has made it visible??

Three places to check - may be just use a rocket blower

1) Eye piece - View finder
2) Mirror
3) Sensor.

The dust is huge enough to be blown away using the rocket blower

and the most exhaustive list of cleaning sensor is given here

hope this helps

Hello, it isnt something that can be cleaned off. It is physically there, a large perfect circle which fits perfectly in the view finder window. I wish there was a way to tell you what I can see.

Hi littleclare

Can you take it to a near by studio or even a camera shop and ask them what they see.

I dont suspect a big issue, sometimes the mirror comes loose (Some 5D's) and the view finder is more are less like how you described (Dark)

Here i suspect a simple dust. It would be better if you can snap a picture. Hence i suggest that you should take it to a studio or camera shopp and ask for a second opinion

Can you tell us:

1. Does the circle appear in any shots you take or just in the viewfinder?
2. How big is the circle? 5% of the viewfinder? 20% 50%??
3. If you shake the camera, does it move?
4. If you take the lens off and look up towards the ground glass screen, can you see anything there?
