The XS is Canon's entry point to the DSLR's. So it is not the most feature-packed camera, even compared to other entry point cameras from other manufacturers. However, the image quality from the XS is great and it is fully compatible with all of Canon EOS system. Great first dSLR for those who prefer Canon and are on a budget.

if you are not limited to canon, there are some other good choices in the entry-dslr market that could be worth considering.

do you have a maximum budget?

You can get an Olympus E-520 for $500 with 2 lenses if you are not limited to Canon products.
