Low Distortion Lens

Hi

I have started using my 300D at work for Architectural Photography with the standard 18-55 that came with the camera. Its gives ok results but the barrell distortion on some head on shots is annoying and its not half as sharp as my 50mm f1.8 (yet this hasnt got the width).....! If i where to buy a lens with very little distortion and as sharp as the 50mm what should i get....? 16-35mm f2.8L, 14mm f2.8L.......? What about a non-Canon lens..? I have to try and persuade the boss to buy this for me so at the moment price does not matter... :D

Thanks

Richie
