Default Rebel XSi: Shooting Fireworks...

Hi,

Sorry if this has been answered before. I tried the search feature and could not find specifics.

First, I'm a total n00b and clueless about my Rebel XSi (a gift). With New Year's a couple days away, I would like to take some good photos of the fireworks show here where I live. I will be high up in an apartment tower (20th floor), watching the show over the city (1 km ++ distance).

I already have a tripod, but I need to configure the camera for this.

Can someone be kind enough to tell me (step by step) how to setup my XSi to manual, bulb, exposure, etc, etc to shoot fireworks properly from a distance? I don't even know where to begin, so details would be helpful.

THANKS in advance!
