Default Canon EOS Rebel T2i Questions

Hello,

A few days ago I began posting & noticed that the Panasonic FZ38 is a popular little camera at a low price. The folks in the forum were very nice & provided me with lots of great info. I decided to dig out my Fuji SD6000 & found that it still works pretty good.
So, now I've started to look at the Canon EOS Rebel T2i. I like to take pics of my son while he participates in Karate tournaments. He also does some dirt biking. I also like to take pics of our summer vacation to the California Eastern Sierras (wildlife, scenery, people pics), So, with this in mind will the T2i meet my needs?
I found the T2i on sale at Best Buys for $1029.00 =tax. It comes with 18-55 mm & 55-250mm IS Telephoto Lens & camera bag. Is this a good buy?
Lastly, I have a Canon 80-200 mm lens & Canon Speedlight 420EX Flash from a SLR camera that I had about 5 years ago. Will these fit the T2i?

Than you very much for any suggestions you can provide.

Yes. Yes. Yes. and Yes.

But for the Karate, you should probably get a faster lens that's more appropriate for indoor sports. Something like Canon's 85mm f/1.8 or 100mm f/2.0 would be good and not too expensive. If you can't get close, you may need something like the Canon 135mm f/2.0.

TCav is right, with anything indoor you are likely to need fast glass. Most of these were taken with the 7D and 85mm f1.8 and to be honest were in better than average lighting due to being an international event. http://forums.steves-digicams.com/sp...ent-egypt.html

Thank you for your response. I'll probably go down to BestBuys & take a closer look at the T2i.

Please let me hijack this thread with a question about T2i: will a Canon Flash SpeedLite 380EX be useful with that body? As far as I remember it was a dedicated flash for Canon slr bodies and i own one like mint. Thanks in advance.

it will work as the flash is e-ttl and thus compliant with e-ttlii.

That's good news; thanks Dustin. I'm abandoning my 4/3 search (GH1 14-140) and leaning towards a T2i.

Canon has a rebate on certain T2i lens combos.

He, he!
But will a T2i + Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 XR Di-II SP outperform the GH1 + 14-140 kit lens?
How's Greece, Walter? We will need some picks, you now.
