The third picture from the end is incredible - it looks like it was taken in broad daylight.

Yes .. shadows like sunshine, but it was 23:19 (look EXIF) :-)
Camera sees more than human eye.

12 hours difference

23:19 - 11:19 p.m. ... 30 sec, 6400 ISO

11:25 - 11:25 a.m. - no sun ... 1/30 sec, 100 ISO

factor 100 ISO - 6400 ISO = 6 ... 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 6400
factor 1/30 sec - 30 sec = 10 ... 1/15, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 4, 8, 15, 30

first picture 2^16 = "65536x" exposed as second picture

The 8mm has a decent amount of fishing to it, but it look pretty good. Was the manual focus pretty easy without a split prism?
