Default how to grab jpegs from raw files

i think breeze browser is just for windows and i am having a hard time with photo mechanics (cache error message) does anyone here grab their jpegs from the raw files and what do you use to do it... i like jpegs for some things and rather than shoot raw + jpeg, i understand there is an embedded jpeg in the raw files of the 7D and other newer cameras

Donna, the embedded jpg is very low resolution. But there isn't much of a penalty in creating jogs from Raw depending on the program you use.

If you are using a Mac, just use iPhoto, it's very good.

dcraw can extract the JPEG thumbnails if you use the following option.
This is a copy & paste from the dcraw manual:

" -e Extract the camera-generated thumbnail, not the raw image.
You'll get either a JPEG or a PPM file, depending on the camera."

A raw file from my 500D (T1i) produces a 15MP JPEG with a file
size of approximately 1.5MB. A stand-alone JPEG produced by
the camera is usually around 4-6MP.

I wonder why you want to use the embedded thumbnail/preview
image? The raw file contains all the information you need to make
a higher quality JPEG.
