Default Eos 7D firmware 1.2.2?

Is it worth the update?

Best method? Via file or via compact flash card?

Your choice. Follow Canon's instructions ... I strongly prefer to use the freshly formatted CF card and fully charged battery method: http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/fir.../firmware.html

Reason? Habit and reliability, I guess it's pretty much the same procedure as I use with my 5DMII and I have NEVER had a problem doing it that way. And I don't have to depend on a computer that might fail or have the power go out while I'm updating.

I haven't done this one as I've had no issues, but there is nothing wrong with keeping up to date. I have the latest everything on my 5DmkII and 1DmkIII, always updated fine with the CF method.

I always update using the cf card.
As I have said before, updating your firmware is so simple it's silly to not do it. Also, if you should have an issue with your camera and it is under warranty, the first question Canon service reps will ask is, is your firmware is up to date.

Well. I can't update. From this screen in Eos utility:

I can't reach this screen:

It just opens My documents. Any idea? May be i must download the firmare to a folder in my computer and from there to the CF?

First its best to use the CF method, if something happens to your USB connection during the process its time for a trip to Canon. Simply download the file, put it on a freshly formatted CF and put it in the camera then use the navigation to update.

Its pointing you to documents trying to locate the file, you have to navigate it to the firmware flash.
I always upgrade the firmware as its available, if you ever have issues and call tech support this is the first question they will ask you. I also acrhive the firmware at each release for the bodies I am using so I can go back if the new one is glitched, havent had that happen yet.
