Default Aftermarket Battery Grip Success?

I'm interested in an aftermarket battery grip for the extended battery power when taking videos. I see some offered on e-bay for cheap. Any risks with this?

One of our reviewers got an off-brand unit with his T1i and has had no issues at all with it so far (been about a year I'd say). I myself stuck with the Canon brand unit.

I have a Phottix grip for my sony alpha and a friend bought the Phottix for his Nikon. Not saying how well the phottix Canon grip will work but quality seems fine. My sony uses both batteries at once. his nikon has a switch. Canon? don't know. You might want to check that point.

I got mine from Amazon for $42 using it in my XSi. No problem at all. It comes with 2 battery holders: one for AA batteries and the other one for 2 Canon batteries.

only thing to watch out with the off brands it they do go cheap with the the wire, so the compress crimps comes loose, under the plate that is screwed down. it is a simple fix if the happens, just soider them

Thanks for the advice! I was surprised to see the unit for less at Amazon, as suggested, and placed the order.
