Default T2i Malfunction

My T2i is seeing things... it thinks the external flash is attached when it isn't, thereby preventing the use of the on-board flash. In the menu settings it claims that an external flash is attached but isn't otherwise recognized.

Any ideas to get this fixed?

Default Hot shoe

I read somewhere some of the Canon Cameras have been having trouble with their hot shoe contacts. Did you use a Canon EX flash right before this problem showed up? If I remember correctly mounting and locking down an Ex flash sometimes jambs the contacts. After it is removed the jambed contact makes the camera circuits think the flash is still there. I would contact the company I bought the camera from or Canon service if I were you.

Bingo! TommyK nailed it. I depressed the spring contacts that would run underneath the accessory flash and the camera stopped 'seeing' the phantom flash. The problem occurred after removing a 430EX, so there's a match as well.

Ordo, the "Flash Control" menu takes me to the internal and external settings. Before I 'fixed' the camera the internal flash settings displayed an error message indicating an external flash was connected. The external flash menu indicated an external flash was present but not recognized.
