Default 5D shutter malfunction?

i've started having a weird problem with my 5D... sometimes - about once in every 5-10 frames - when i press the shutter, the mirror pops up, but no image is recorded, and i have to press the shutter again to get the mirror to drop so i can try another shot. it does this with both the shutter button and my corded remote. it seems to happen a bit less frequently if i press and hold the shutter for a moment instead of just pressing and immediately releasing it. the camera probably has about 25-30k clicks on it.

has anyone else had a similar problem?

if it is the original 5d, conatact Canon repair. That body had a known issue where the mirror could come loose from its mount.
If that is your issue I believe Canon will fix it for free.

thanks, Peter... yes, it's the original 5D. i guess i'll have to box it up and ship it off to California to have them check it out... i don't believe the mirror has come loose, there's nothing rattling around in there, and it looks normal enough when i take the lens off, but i'm no expert. at least i still have my 40D as a back-up while the 5D's in the shop...

Yes,
hat is my ultimate fear, that the current favourite breaks down and has to go away for a while!
