Default Canon USM 28~105 AF problem

I have a nice Canon USM 28~105 lens that I would love to have repaired. The auto focus stopped working a few years ago and I have been using it ever since to shoot non sports or non demanding shots using manual focus. s I now have a new DSLR and want to use this as my primary lens, I want to get it working again in AF mode. Does anyone know of a good and affordable lens repair facility?

It really is not worth it, as canon will charge you about 200 dollars to fix clean and cal the lens. They will do the best job. Do not know about any of the non canon repairs sites. Sorry.

I thought that might be the case, can pick up a nice used example for about 140. I guess Ill have to do that and leave this on my Elan 2E.

which dslr body are you using it on? If it is crop. You will have a very different view form the elan 2E.

If you have full frame dslr. The canon 24-105L IS is very nice. Or you can find a ef 28-135 IS USM pretty cheap. It is a good lens. For about 200 at times, and you get the IS.

Thanks I'll get the 28~135USM IS then! BTW it is on a 30D, so how much crop do I get over same lens on a 35mm film camera? I have a 1Nrs (also 35mm) and an A2E (yes, 35mm). And am new to the DSLR world after picking up a great deal on a slightly used 30D.

1.6x. To get what the 28-105 gives you, you will need to look at the ef-s 17-85 or the ef-s 15-85

I have a 17~35, so am covered there but would love to replace the focal of the 28~105 too as I still have two other (35mm) Canon Pro bodies, an A2E and a 1Nrs.
