Lately I have noticed a few indoor shots taken with the built in flash have been a bit under exposed(in auto), so last night I played around in P mode to fix it up. I knocked the exposure all the way up to +4 and the camera decided to use exactly the same settings (shutter speed, aperture & ISO) which seemed very strange (the photo was still under exposed). Out of curiosity I tried to see how far down I could go with the camera selecting the same settings, I got down to -1.

So I guess my question is: Is my camera faulty? Does the flash intensity change on the built in flash (even though I could not see any real difference in exposure)?

One other thing I should mention is that the flash sometimes takes a while to charge. I don't know what the norm is, but I have had it take a few seconds sometimes (about 4sec).

Has anyone had these problems, or similar on the canon 550D/T2i?

Short explanation:

There's nothing wrong with the camera. That's how flash works.

You need to change your FEC not your EC. It's possible you changed it by accident a couple of weeks ago.

Check the manual.

Does it look like this on the camara LCD?
Have you tried another card. Not a cheapo one - a reputable brand?
you may be on to something with that.My t2i was giving me all kinds of grief similar to that ,locking up and freezing etc... turned out to be the card
