Default Just got my new cam.

Ended up getting a 60D with the 15-85 lens.

This is the lens I have wanted since it came out, it covers the focal lengths I use the most and is superbly sharp, it and the 17-55 are as good as it gets for a non-L.

Its freezing cold and I just got it so I haven't had much chance to do much except set up my custom preferences how I like them.

Love the swivel screen, its very high resolution with a bit more resolution than my 50d. The overall feel is great, its a bit smaller than the 50d, but still substantial and solid, matches very well with the 15-85. I like that it shares SD cards with my EPL1. I do prefer the larger grip of the 50d and the ability to micro-adjust, but i never needed to micro-adjust anything yet anyway.

Congrats!!! I think you'll like it. I'd be interested to know how you find it to the 50D after you begin shooting more. What made you decide to buy it?

I just bought mine last Friday and I also have that lens (only for a little while now...just before Xmas) and I love it. For me, that range is also something I find useful.

I look forward too seeing some of your photos. I quite liked your B&W with the 50D so this new set up I'm sure will be outstanding.

Enjoy the camera and lens!

Come on down to Texas, we'll put you up for the weekend. Only 1 kid left at home, so plenty of room! It's supposed to be 83 F here today. Plenty warm enough for you to use that new outfit!

@shutterbug - thanks!
comparing it to the 50d in shooting i expect much the same experience. the IQ will be overall similar but the 60d edges it out a bit. i chose the 60d because i have always felt comfortable with the xxd series, (had 20d, have my 50d), and for what I shoot the extra speed of the 7d is unnecessary. (and can't justify a 5dmii)

@jdnan - thanks for the offer! that sounds might tempting when i see the forecast here is for 29-32 for the high all weekend!

Congratulations!

How are you finding the 15-85? I'm looking at buying it to replace my 18-55 standard on my 550D.

Would it be a lens that you recommend? Have you used the 18-55 before, is this much better?

Phil

05mpwright
dont let the little 18-55 fool you
its quite a sharp and useful little bugga
i got some fab shots with it
no doubt the 17-85 is better but at a much higher cost as well
has more reach too
the only thing i did not like about the 18-55 is that the zoom never ended out it kept going from 18 to 55 and then back again....grrrrr
if you have $$$$ i think the 17-55mm is a damn good lens complimented with a 70-200mm would give you all you might need, till the 'bug' bites again
but then again a 17-85 would fit in that combo rather well now wouldnt it
aghhhhh decisions , well better you than me, i just made some, you enjoy the moment
good luck
peace
pete
