Thanks for all the advice everyone. I called to check on the "deal" today and the old if it seems too good to be true kicked in. The rep said they are currently out of those "non North American models" but would be happy to sell me a US version for $950. The wife did buy me a "nifty fifty" as a concillation prize though.

if you want a t2i, canon does have refreb models in your price range. And if you have a broken or canon old point and shoot you can get the discount. You get a 90 day warranty.
