Default Micro-USB microphone on T1i?

Can I use a microphone attached to my Canon t1i/500D through the micro-usb port(such as one using an adaptor similar to this http://www.handhelditems.com/motorol...r-p-16715.html) to record audio for HD video?

You can find a few videos around that show you how to take your T1i apart, snip the wires going to the existing mic, and solder in a jack to add an external mic to one.

The sound quality is pretty bad from most reports (and mono only). But, there is a "Magic Lantern hack" (software that allows you to do things like turn off AGC to help out with it's bad sound quality).

Personally, I wouldn't bother. I'd just get an Audio Recorder and combine the audio and video later. Or, get a camera with an external mic input instead.
