I hope this doesn't sound too dumb a question, but do you think this lens can be used with a teleconverter? I shoot a lot of wildlife, and what's stopping me from going DSLR is the prohibitive cost of big zooms.

I know that Tokina makes Kenko teleconverters, but I haven't seen anyone comment on the effectiveness of one with the 80-400 lens. The biggest problem I've seen with any teleconverter is the lack of sharpness and the loss of AF IQ. The most practical, somewhat affordable telephoto lens that I've seen for wildlife is the Bigma. You can't get the older version for under $1,000, which is not bad at all for a good quality 500mm lens.

There is Tokina 80-400 with 1.7x converter - used with Sony NEX5

TOKINA 80-400 + Soligor 1.7x Konverter ---> 204-1020mm
aperture 11, 1020mm

the flowers look very nice with the teleconverter, but I doubt if AF IQ would be good enough to catch wildlife while moving. Of course, I could be wrong here and would love it if you responded back with great, moving, wildlife shots with the same setup.
