Default canon 580 ex II vs Metz 48af-2

hello canon-eers
just bought the canon 580EXII
just wondering if the metz is also a good flash
price canon 499+tax + 80 warranty ( 5yrs )
metz 429 + tax + 80 ( 5 yrs )

apparently the metz has more features and can be upgraded via usb and has an extra flash thingee in the front and is also less complicated

the canon is guaranteed on my canon 50D + 24-105mm IS lens
my sigma 530 super DG would misfire a lot and froze during an event shoot
i figure the canon will always work and never be incompatable evn if i upgrade or even downgradee
any suggestions
i have 12 more days to try it out
cheers
the weather is getting better
time to get klikkin
Pete

The metz 58 AF-2 is a excellent flash, it has some nice advantages over the canon. The secondary filler flash is one of the nice things it has. The user interface is easier to use. And the user upgradable firmware is nice. You can set it up adjust for aps-c or FF cameras.

The metz have had no issues on my t1i, 60D or eos 1. Does not misfire.

I have the metz 58 AF-2 and the older metz 48 AF-1 (replace my the 50 AF-1) and they have been solid performers.

thanks man
i actually went to buy the metz but the canon went on sale so i bought that instead
yup i liked the fill flash feature but did not get to use one as they did not have any in-store and so ordered one for me
my only issue is that i have had bad luck with a couple of sigma products and that why im sticking with the canon
they also threw in a 5yr warranty for like 80 bucks
well i do have 9 more days to decide as may still have the metz still there if it doesnt sell
peace out dude

metz makes great flashes, they pay the lic to can to ensure compatibilities. And when ever new camera's comes out, they have firmware to keep the flash upto date. Same with nissin flashes. They are the 2 best non oam flashes out there.

Yeah, kinda of figure, that is the one they have up against the 580 exii. I have the AF-2 and really like it. I like the less convoluted user interface of metz over canon. Nissin is even simpler with their user interface.
