Default New Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 OS shipping

New Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 OS is shipping, and the value of the old version has dropped like a rock.

Was at one of my favorite equipment haunts (shops) and they had a few of the old 120-300 f/2.8 lenses in both Canon and Nikon mounts they had taken in trade, going for around 1500$cdn..
Big drop from the 3200$cdn it went for when they were the new version.
I am guessing the store gave the people maybe 700$ to take the old used lens off their hands.

It was a great lens, but that massive drop in price is something that doesn't happen on name brand pro Canon L and pro Nikon lenses. They seem to hold their value much better over the years.

Only important if you plan to ever trade your old lenses in, I am very happy with my 2 Sigmas and have no plans to trade or update them to the new version!

It's really sad how expensive these lenses are getting. When I bought my 120-300 5 years ago it cost $1860 USD new. The canon 300mm 2.8 IS was selling for around $3500 I think. Now the new version of the 300mm prime is priced at what a 400mm 2.8 used to cost. So the new 120-300 2.8 at $3200 is still a 'bargain' by comparison.

3200$cdn is what the old version of the lens was costing before it went to the old lenses home.

The new Sigma's 120-300mm f/2.8 OS lens is now available at a price of 4,700$US
not sure what the Canadian stores will have it listed for.

Seems getting IS bumped the price up by about 1500$.

$4700 is the MSRP price from sigma

If you look at B&H, they're selling them for $3200

Sigma seem to be trying to push themselves seriously upmarket in the price department, which is fine as long as the equipment delivers I suppose.

I'm just glad I have no interest in telephoto lenses!

B&H is selling the older version, new in stock, for $2999 (US). I guess they think the price is going up on the old versions!
