Default cracked display on t2i

Unfortunately while on a trip the rear display on my Canon T2i was cracked. Has anyone had any experience in having this replaced? If so what was the cost?

Thanks

send it to canon, if it is still under 1 year old, and you have the receipt it will be covered under warranty. Canon newport news facility does excellent work.

If it is out of warranty, call them and they will give you a price quota.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Is it the glass LCD screen that is broken and not the
external window on the back of the camera?

As shoturtle says, you might get Canon to fix it under warranty.
The warranty doesn't cover misuse or accidental damage, but
there have been cases where Canon did the repair for free.

Otherwise, you will have to pay to get it fixed or
fix it yourself. Replacement LCD units cost $50-100. As the
T2i screen is inside the camera body, there will be some
dismantling involved. This is probably not a DIY repair unless
you have some experience of this kind of work.

Yeah. If it isn't the actual LCD and just the external window, the window may only be ~$7-15 + shipping.

I had a Pentax K100d with a cracked external window. When I called up Pentax, the part was only $7.

There was just a thread on the LCD protector replacement on another forum. Canon's price will be about 180(labor) + 30(parts). You can buy the cover and adhesive from canon for 30. They referenced the attached blog that shows how to do the replacement. http://blog.johnwurth.com/?p=16
