Default T1i Help with video noise artifact.

I'm using the Canon T1i on 720p. I don't know how to set the video for indoor lighting situations. When you look at the video, you will see noise or busy static all over the place. Especially in darker areas such as the guy's shadow with the guitar.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help!

Check your iso setting. If the room is too dark, or the lens too slow, the low-light noise creeps in.

iowa_jim: Thank you for your suggestion. I clicked the iso button a few times and it seems it will automatically set the iso according to the light, however it still seems quite noisy. Is there something that I need to turn off? I'm am really new at this and any and all advice is helpful.

It's too dark that's why it's boosting iso and you see noise.

Try to set it manual mode and play with the shutter speed and aperture. Get more light. You need some lens with wide aperture 50mm prime for example. But the best would be more light so your camera wont exceed 800 iso mark or more. Then you should be fine

Does the T1i allow manual shutter and aperture settings? Only thing I could find in the docs was locking the iso, but the moment you focus the lens, iso goes back to auto.

No. When you shoot video, there is little or no manual control. The ISO
button has a different function (exposure-lock) when the camera is in video mode.

An even bigger disadvantage is the lack of an external microphone input.
This makes the T1i more or less useless for video unless you use a separate
sound recorder or you like making silent movies.
