Default cannot adjust flash exposure compensation from camera

i have a canon 5d II and a speedlight 430 EXII.

When the speedlight is mounted i can adjust the flash exposure compensation via the flash controls on the flash.

but when i press the ISO:Flash exposure control button on the top of the camera, and twist the wheel on the back, the flash exposure compensation icon flashes on the LCD screen but i cannot adjust the exposure compensation. any idea why this is?

DUH! Im an idiot, figured it out. if i have adjusted the exposure compensation on the flash, i cannot do it on the camera as the flash settings override the camera settings.

if i set the flash exposure compensation to 0, i can then adjust from the camera.
