Default T4i or 60D ?

EOS Rebel T4i or 60D

I was going to purchase a new 60D, but the T4i seems to be a better camera. You comments are more than welcome! I beg for your comments! Thanks

Well...the T4i has quite a spec' sheet- though if I was to be shooting sporty subjects I'd still go with the 60D due to it's larger buffer.
So I guess much depends on what you'll be shooting...
Both great cameras however....

The 60D has a Pentaprism instead of a Pentamirror like the T4i. (Pentaprisms are brighter than Pentamirrors.)

The 60D has a 1/8000 second shutter speed, while the T4i maxes out at 1/4000.

The 60D has a 1/250 second flash sync speed, while the T4i maxes out at 1/200.

The 60D has a continuous shooting speed of 5.3 fps, while the T4i maxes out at 5.

Why would you say that the T4i is a better camera?

In favor of the T4i:
  • Hybrid focus system for video performance - although feedback seems to be the new hybrid system is better but still not good enough but it is continuous AF which the 60d does not have.
  • Touchscreen interface (could also be a con)
  • digic 5 image processor vs. digic 4 of 60d - better High ISO performance - one stop more of native ISO
  • slightly improved LCD.
  • option for GPS
In favor of the 60d:
  • pentaprism vs pentamirror.
  • 1/250 vs 1/200 flash synch speed.
  • larger viewfinder mag (0.95 vs. 0.85)
  • 1/8000 vs. 1/4000 shutter (only really matters when you're using f1.2 and f1.4 type lenses outdoors in bright light wide open).
  • some weather sealing (t4i has none)
  • better battery
Normally, the 60d would be due for a replacement. However, Canon has released the full-frame 6d. It's unclear what timeframe Canon will release a replacement for the 60d or even if they will at this point (similar to what Nikon has done. Canon has left the 7d and 60d in limbo and nikon has left the d300s and d7000 in limbo). So, it's no surprise that the t4i has some feature benefits since it's 2 years newer.

Having not worked with either camera I can't compare ergonomics.

Thanks SIMON40

TCav I guess I said it was better because I did not know better. Thanks for your help, back to purchasing a 60D unless there is a 70D coming out soon.

Thanks also JohnG

I wish Canon wouldn't put that corny "Rebel" name on the body. Why not just T3i or T4i.

Could be worse, it's the Kiss X6 in Japan.

It's the 650D here in the UK. I don't quite understand why the alternate name from the USA. I guess there is some marketing advantage that Canon will say justifies the difference.

Well a 650D looks much better than a Rebel T4i on the body. It's more in line with their 40, 50, 60, 7Ds.

It distinguishes itself from the grey market imports. Canon USA doesn't want people to buy Canon products from overseas.

We're expecting the 70d to be announced later this month. Sounds like a winner from the leaked hype.
