Default Auto ISO on 5D MkII

When in a dim room with my old camera i would set the iso to auto, and let it push up to whatever necessary to get a decent shot.

With my 5D MkII, when on Apature Value mode and with ISO set to auto, the ISO rarely goes above 400, giving me a slow shutter speed.

Im shooting at 24mm F2.8, but only getting a shutter speed of 1/15 at ISO 400. I would rather it bumped the ISO up to 600 or 800 and gave me a shutter speed of 1/40 or more.

Why doesnt the camera bump the ISO up and give me a quicker shutter speed so as to give me a sharper shot?

I don't use auto-iso - but isn't there a place where you can set an upward limit of what ISO will be used?

Page 58 of the 5d-mkii user manual has this table for auto-iso

Modes P/Tv/Av ISO 100-3200
Modes M/B fixed at ISO 400
flash connected fixed at ISO 400 *

* if fill flash results in overexposure ISO 100 or faster will be set.

I don't see a custom function item that would affect auto-iso listed in the manual.

"A" mode is not the best for use with auto iso- as primarily the camera focuses (lol....) on exposure, which in your case it had- it didn't know you needed more speed.
Much the same in "Tv"- focusing on exposure, though here you have the speed you desire- as you've already dialed it in.
You'd be better using "M"- if you need a specific speed and aperture- utilizing the exposure meter as your iso guide....
Not ideal in variable lighting however...!
